10 Cents a Meal Program Expanded to Include the Upper Peninsula

10 Cents A Meal For Michigan’s Kids & Farms is a state-funded pilot program providing schools with match incentive funding up to 10 cents per meal to purchase and serve Michigan-grown fruits, vegetables, and legumes. The goals of the program improve daily nutrition and eating habits for Michigan children through the school setting and investing in Michigan agriculture and related local food business economy. COVID-19 Food Advocacy Opportunities

COVID-19 has exposed weaknesses in many parts of the food system. This includes equitable access to food. The U.P. Food Exchange believes good food should be a part of everyone’s life, so we are excited to help spread the word about potential federal policy changes that support food access. We hope that you will join us in supporting this legislation by signing on, using the letter (link below) as templates, or calling our representatives.

The Expanding SNAP Options Act of 2020 would enable farmers markets, farms, and small retailers and grocery stores to accept SNAP online – giving SNAP recipients access to local and healthy food through curbside pickup optionsLearn more here.
